Penistone Mayor’s Parade & Gala

The Big Weekend 2011 was on the 11th and 12th June was this year’s theme being “Transport through the ages”.

A big thank you from Penistone Round Table, Penistone Scouts and Penistone Town Council.  Despite the rain (and yet more rain) this years event went off on schedule with a number of great entertainment acts across the weekend.  Sadly the endless showers put a dampener on Sunday’s events, but the support from the local Penistone Community was once again absolutely fantastic!  Saturday’s Proms in the Park saw great performances from our line up, and a great crowd turning out.  Similarly Saturday night saw a brilliant and diversely versatile perfomance from The Bootleggers and support band the Whys and Wherefores.

There were some fantastic floats in this year’s parade and sincere thanks to all those who took part (and probably got a bit wet in the process).  Unfortunately for the folks that didn’t turn out, the rain swept aside possibly the most packed and fun filled gala field in a decade – and to quote one of the longest standing members of Penistone Round Table – what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger – here’s for a great gala in 2012.  A huge thank you for all who supported this weekends events, particularly many of the volunteers who have put aside literally days and days of their time over the last 10 months to plan and run this event. 

MAYOR’S RAFFLE UPDATE

Councillor Steve Webber and Mayor of Penistone will be performing the raffle draw (with a third party scrutineer) live on Penistone FM 95.7 this coming Tuesday the 14th on his 8pm show.  Tune in to support your local radio station and to listen to the draw live!
